We all have off days from time to time. Whether you are exhausted working on a deadline or you have been up half the night with a sick child or your just feeling shattered, we all have times when our energy levels are low. It’s times like these that we need to look at ways to boost our vitality whilst working.
1) Food for thought
We have all heard the advice about eating healthy but do we actually do it? Being creatures of habit; we generally eat similar foods on a daily/weekly basis. Just by choosing the healthier option you can avoid that afternoon slump. High protein foods like chicken, eggs, cottage cheese and tuna are perfect for lunch. Combine it with your favorite salad or vegetables. Add some healthy fats such as avocados, nuts, seeds and olive oil to help give you sustained energy for the afternoon.
2) Move your body
Our bodies are not made for sitting all day long, so get up and move around. Uplift your mood and boost up your energy levels with a quick 10-15min walk. By spending some time during your day doing some form of physical activity, you can actually improve productivity. So it’s not only great for increasing your blood flow but also keeps your boss happy!
3) Healthy snack
Keep your brainpower surging with an energy boosting snack. Choosing a banana for a mid-morning or afternoon snack will give you the perfect amount of glucose your brain needs to function at its optimal level. On the other hand, sugary treats may give you an initial blood sugar hike but we all know that its quickly followed by a slump, making you feel even worse than before. Try a handful of almonds, blueberries or some avocado to feed your brain and give you some extra get-up- and-go.
4) Get some Zzz’s
Feeling exhausted? A 20-40min power nap will give you the oomph you need to recharge and get back your momentum. It helps reduce the stress hormone Cortisol, improves your memory and boosts your energy levels. Best time for a power nap is between 1-3pm according to Dr. Phyllis Zee, so go ahead and rejuvenate your energy!
